So much to do and see!

At the very bottom of the home page of this website are two links that give you plenty of ideas about what to do in Tzfat, Safed, Zefat, Tsfat (or however you want to spell it). There are some wonderful restaurants, both meat and dairy (vegetarian fare) and plenty of falafel and pizza too. Tzfat is where artists' galleries abound. There are ancient synagogues to visit. There's Tzfat Cheese and the Safed Candle Factory where candle making is an art that will surprise you. Many people like to visit the grave sites of holy sages hundred or even thousands of years ago! It's said that a small part of the soul lingers at the grave and that the "tzaddik" can be asked to intercede on your behalf in the heavenly courts!

You can spend days exploring the winding roads and alleyways of Tzfat. But there is so much to do all around Tzfat. So, if Tzfat is going to be your home base for a few days or weeks, take time to enjoy Northern Israel, the Galilee and the Golan.

Below you'll find just some of the ideas. I hope to add to the list and I'd be happy to hear from you if you have some ideas that you think others might enjoy.

Horseback riding and more at Bat Yaar

We personally know and love Alex, the man who runs the horses at Bat Yaar. He's a man with integrity... and horses! You can arrange for a trail ride or even a camping trip on horseback. Their website is http://www.batyaar.co.il/ (It's in Hebrew but even if you can't read it, there are pictures.) You can reach Alex directly at 057.722.6346. He speaks English, French and Hebrew. For more info (Hebrew) and pics:

Bat Yaar also has a ropes course which is pretty fun for bigger kids. You can see pictures here: http://www.batyaar.co.il/roap.phtml

Menara for a fun filled time

Though their website is Hebrew, the photos will show you all the fun to be had at Menara Cliff. There's a cable car, a zip line, a slide, kayaking (rafting, but don't worry no white water here), and a "dry bobsled"
http://cliff.co.il/

You can choose to do one thing or get a package and do a bunch at one time. You can call them at 04.690.5830

Kayaking (Gentle River Rafting)

Abu Kayak can be reached at 04.692.1078. You can even download a coupon at their website: abukayak.co.il/

At the time of this posting, if you scroll down to the bottom of the page the coupon is the third link from the right ("coopon hanacha" in Hebrew)

Paint Ball

Kibbutz Ayelet Hashachar has paint ball. You need a minimum of four people to participate and you need to call in advance. I'm told it's more fun in a larger group, so gather your friends around and have a blast if that's your style.  pbl.co.il and there is a link for the website in English. You can speak to them in English, but you should say "paint ball" with an Israeli accent, more like "paint bowl" (but say it fast) so they know what you're talking about. :-P

They can be reached by phone at 04.693.2226

A link to more ideas!

http://www.travelforkids.com/Funtodo/Israel/israelnorth.htm has a great list of ideas of places to go and see.

There are many national parks in Israel! Here's a great link to more ideas about parks you can visit according the the region you're interested in. If you're in Tzfat, you're in the Galilee (or Galil in Hebrew).

More ideas?

If shopping is your thing, you might want to check out the Naot shoe factory which is also in the north. Very high quality and much less expensive than you'd pay in a retail store abroad.

I'd love to hear from you if you think I should list something you enjoyed while in the north of Israel. Please contact me and let me know what you think and I'll do my best to add it to this webpage.

Best blessings!
Laya
